Charlotte Webb - British Army Musician Inspires Next Generation

OF Charlotte Webb (fmbn06-11) is a clarinettist in the British Army and member of the Corps Engagement Team (Royal Corps of Army Music) located at the Army Music Headquarters.

Charlotte’s love of music started when she picked-up the clarinet at the age of 13 and enjoyed being a member of the orchestra, wind and steel bands during her time at Felsted.

Although Charlotte had always been interested in military life, she had never seen herself as someone who would pursue a career in the armed forces and wasn’t sure what she wanted to do. Opting for the world of work rather than university after leaving Felsted, she spent five years as a personal assistant before realising that she needed a career change.

Charlotte applied for the Royal Corps of Army Music Summer Academy in 2016 and got a taste for what Army life would be like before beginning her basic training in May 2017. She was then posted to the Band of the Coldstream Guards in London and took part in state ceremonial events such as Trooping of the Colour, Changing of the Guard and the State Opening of Parliament.

She is now a member of the Corps Engagement Team and helps to recruit for the UK’s largest employer of musicians.

Charlotte explains, “I’m looking forward to inspiring the next generation of Army musicians.”
