U18 Cricket Girls - National Cup Finalists

The U18 Felsted girls' cricket team are through to the National Cup Final!

Full match report below by Grace Poole (1st XI captain).

Knowing that we are a strong bowling side and playing on a lovely wicket, as a team we decided to bat first. With myself and Annabel opening up the batting we thought we would face out a very strong in-swing bowler and hit the bad balls when we can, with a slow outfield we made sure that there were 2 runs available! When our wickets fell it brought in Emma and Jess two very strong batters that were determined to go for it which showed a positive view for the team and put Bede's School under pressure.

Unfortunately there was a wicket, however Beth, another keen batter, took on the role as keen runner and hitter for the team, building a 40 run partnership with Jess. This showed a great atmosphere for the game.

In the 15th over, Jess scored her 50 with some remarkable shots for just a young 15 year old. Another young star Ruby showed commitment out in bat facing against the opening bowlers and managing to stay in through till the end! It was an outstanding achievement from the middle orders batters that managed tally up the runs, in the end we ended up with a defendable score of 143 - 5.

As we went into field you could already tell the atmosphere was loud and full of enjoyment, everyone in the team was supportive to the bowlers and the fielding was very enthusiastic with some amazing dives from Izzy and Fiora! With every wicket taken our encouragement seemed to have lifted every time, we placed a lot of pressure on the batters which did see a huge fall in wickets. An impressive catch by Olivia S at mid on (Joe Root would be impressed!) and from Emma who received a very high backwards catch of a very strong batter which was needed so we could finish the game! A very good team performance with the ball we managed to get them all out for 90. We are all looking forward to the finals next Thursday, and I’m sure that are team will be on it and make sure that we come back with a win even if it is our first time in the cup.
