National Squash Success

In March 2019, Felsted’s U16 Squash team played in the English National Schools Squash Championships Plate Finals at Nottingham Squash Club.

After playing 5 previous fixtures the team qualified to play on the national stage against the strongest school sides in the country and they finished a very impressive 7th overall.

The team of Archie Pritchard, Ethan Selvester, Jess Baxter, Marcus Dove, Seb Dove and Gabriel Mifsud had been training hard for the event and all acquitted themselves admirably as they played determined and skillful squash against strong opponents.

In the first match Exeter proved tough opponents with Ethan Selvester the pick of our players at number two seed, winning his match 2-1. Jess Baxter recovered from a slow start and narrowly lost her match 1-2 . Archie, Marcus & Gabriel also lost narrowly.

In the second round of matches the team met Bradfield College. This fixture was extremely close. Marcus & Archie won their matches, Jess and Ethan lost by the narrowest of margins and Gabriel played valiantly whilst feeling unwell.

This was a fantastic team effort to reach the national stage and a strong performance to finish in 7th place.  They represented themselves, Felsted School and the sport of squash with pride, determination and skill. Thank you to Mrs. Baxter and Mr. Selvester for coming along to support the team in their endeavours along with Begbies Traynor for providing sponsorship for our championship shirts and jackets.
