Felstedians compete in National Hockey Finals

By Kit Morley-Jacob, Year 10

In mid January,  Felsted’s Walter Forsey, Dylan Hughes and Kit Morley-Jacob went off to the U16 indoor National Hockey Finals with Old Loughtonians Hockey Club. Henry Dean and Xavier Cook also competed in the U18 National Indoor Finals for Old Loughtonains.

The tournament spanned over two days with each team playing a minimum of 4 games. Our first game was against Repton, a strong side that contained most of the boys who had recently come second in the school competition. We had gone 2-0 down and it looked like we were out of the game. However, a late burst saw us score 2 goals in the last 2 minutes, one by Dylan. It was a thrilling game and a great start to the tournament.

Our next game was much smoother and we won 3-0 and it could have been more! On day 2 we played Winchester, the eventual winners, and lost 4-2 in a close, hard fought game. We won our final game of the day 4-2 and then had a nervous wait to see the Repton result. After Repton had taken an early lead against Winchester we thought we might have been knocked out but Winchester rallied and, much to our delight came out on top, we went through to the semi-finals on goal difference. Although we lost our semi-final in a game that went down to the wire, all the boys thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have learnt a lot to take forward into the rest of the school hockey term.
