Jemima L selected for Essex Cricket U15s

By Miss C Rudd, Head of Girls Cricket

We are delighted to announce that Jemima L (Yr 10) has been selected for the Essex County U15 Girls Performance Squad. Over the past few weekends, cricket trials have been running at The Cloudfm County Ground for the U15’s age group and competition for places has been fierce. Essex have mentioned how ‘enthused’ they were with the number of girl’s attending the trials.

During the trialling process Jemima’s bowling, batting, fielding and fitness were tested in a number of different stations, all of which were scrutinised by many specialised coaches. These drills included batting against a bowling machine, bowling in live nets, fielding drills which assessed reaction time, speed, agility and accuracy of throwing. Jemima had to also take part in the bleep test which tests cardiovascular endurance.

Jemima has said she enjoyed the trialling process but mostly the fitness exercises and the batting. She was also really pleased with how her bowling went as she was consistently able to bowl a good line and length and took several wickets.

The best girls from those that trialled have now been selected into the Performance squad. These girls will be involved in a winter training program and a summer full of competitive fixtures against other counties. As Jemima has done in previous years, she hopes to continue opening the bowling for Essex and contribute some valuable runs with the bat.
