Prestigious award for Felsted School racing driver

Felsted School’s teenage racing driver, Gus Burton, has been announced as a 2021 British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star in recognition of his achievements last season.

This honour is bestowed upon just a handful of British and Commonwealth young drivers each year and Gus follows in the esteemed footsteps of such racing greats as Sir Lewis Hamilton and British Touring Car Champion, Ash Sutton.

This prestigious accolade gives Gus many privileges including access to the club at Silverstone to entertain guests for any event, including F1.

BRDC Operations Executive, Luke Evans, said “we are delighted to welcome Gus to the British Racing Drivers’ Club as a Rising Star. The Club’s Rising Star Scouts have been following his progress for a number of years now and were delighted to see how competitively he performed in the 2020 Ginetta GT4 SuperCup.  With his campaign including multiple visits to the podium, numerous race wins and a close fight for the championship in such a competitive category, it sets up a fantastic season ahead for Gus in 2021.”

This year, Gus will be GT racing in a BMW M4 in partnership with last year’s GT4 SuperCup rival, Will Burns. Gus says “Will and I get along well and we are very excited to have teamed up to challenge for the GT4 title in The Intelligent Money British GT Championships.”

Gus continues his successful relationship with Century Motorsport which runs the only BMW team in the UK and is fully supported by BMW Motorsport.

He also continues to proudly represent the Sparkle Foundation charity and its sponsors, including Felsted School. Please follow Gus’ progress this season #gustavburton @GusBurtonRacing

As a Felsted Sixth Former Gus is committed to pursuing a professional GT race career and in between racing seasons will be focussing on completing his International Baccalaureate Diploma studies.
