Glanville Cup Tennis Success

On Thursday 2nd May the senior boys' tennis trekked to Norwich School for the Glanville Cup quarter finals, the most prestigious tennis tournament, entered by all state and prep schools. We last won it in 1972.

The singles were played first with the top 2 players from Felsted winning easily, Sam Constantinou trouncing his opponent 6-0 6-0 and Max McIlvenna, fighting through an injury to get a hard fought win. Jacob Smith was extremely unlucky, tightly losing out in a well fought contest losing the last set in a 8-10 tiebreak.

However, our saviour, Gus Yr9 tussled through a hard fought 3 set match, losing the first, down in the second set and fighting back to win the second, after a long tiebreaker 10-7, This gave the boys a well needed confidence boost for the doubles.

Felsted 3-1 after the singles. With Jacob and Gus finishing their doubles first, losing another tiring 3 set tiebreaker 8-10. Max and Sam finished off with a close hard hitting match as Ms Marriott-Cox looked exhausted after playing every point on the side of the court and was relieved when we won in straight sets, getting the job done and sending the boys into the semifinals to play against Culford, a top tennis school, to be played on home turf.
