Felsted U18 Girls' Cricket Crowned National Champions

Felsted School U18 girls’ cricket team are crowned National Champions in the Shrewsbury School U18 National Cup after beating Millfield and Shrewsbury.

Batting first against Millfield, Felsted set a score of 115-6 to beat, which looked to be an easy target after the opposition scored 102 in their first 14 overs. However some excellent bowling and fielding brought the score level, taking the team into a final super over where Felsted scored their 10 runs required in just 4 balls.
 

The team consisted of Emma Jones Yr 12, Fiora Moscuzza Yr 11, Martine Blair Yr 9, Beth Irvine Yr 11, Grace Poole Yr 13 (captain), Olivia Copeland Yr 9,  Annabel Hills Yr 12, Jess Olorenshaw Yr9, Olivia Snooks Yr 13, Ruby Hart Yr 9, Rose Simmons Yr 10.

After a short break Felsted were back on the field against Shrewsbury for the final game, where the opposition were bowled out by Felsted on 115. Keeping their cool and making good use of current Essex players, Grace Poole (Felsted Captain) and Jess Olorenshaw, Felsted achieved the desired score in just 17 overs, making them National Champions.

Head of Felsted Girls’ Cricket and current Sussex Vipers Player Carla Rudd comments; “I am so fortunate to coach such hardworking and passionate girls. Each one of them gave their all on that pitch and kept fighting even when things were not going their way. It has been a pleasure to watch them grow as cricketers and as individuals over the last few years.” 

What makes this achievement so special is that the team consisted of so many different year groups, with four only being in Year 9. The future looks bright for Felsted girls' cricket.

This win follows a successful cricket season for Felsted, with two county titles for the U15 girls and the 1st XI boys.

Felsted is currently nominated as an Inspirational School for girls’ cricket by Essex CCC and became a MCCF (Marylebone Cricket Club Foundation) hub for girls’ cricket in November 2015.
