School Sport Magazine’s Top 100 independent schools for sport reflects competitive achievement in a range of sports throughout the year and honours those schools that take competition seriously.  

The rankings are based on computer programmed mix of 19 different sports and more than 120 different national competitions, with more weighting given to success in a range of sports rather than single sports, and those with more teams competing in competitions.

Claiming 11th place in the country is a huge accolade for Felsted School; Director of Sport, Charlie Knightley and Director of Girls’ Sport, Loren Willis are extremely proud of the pupils’ achievements across a wide range of sports and age ranges. 

“This is excellent recognition for all the hours of training and preparation that all our pupils put into their sport. Their efforts are mirrored by the many coaches that have guided teams and individuals throughout the year and the heads of various sports that have worked so hard to bring success in many different areas.”

The focus at Felsted is to try and ensure that all the pupils have a positive experience of school sport and that all participants can develop their specific skills, as well as developing as characters, through teamwork, communication, and an understanding of managing success and failure in equal measure. It is not unusual to have 25 different fixtures being played on a Saturday afternoon, while many more take part in other sports and physical activities. 

Felsted regularly reaches national finals across its core sports of rugby, hockey, netball, cricket and tennis, but also claims silverware in other disciplines such as riding, squash, athletics and golf.

Successes in the last year include the 1st XI girls playing in the National Hockey Finals at the Olympic Park, the 1st XV rugby team reaching the semi-finals of the NatWest Cup and the Under 15 girls’ cricket team claiming the National Indoor and Outdoor titles.
