Since the start of the Autumn term, pupils in years 9-11 have been working towards the bronze and silver Sport Leadership Awards during their curriculum Physical Education lessons. The award scheme aims to help pupils develop their leadership skills in a sporting context by taking on the role of coach.
During this period of remote learning lessons have involved pupils planning and filming a warm-up and short coaching session for a sport of their choice. It has been fantastic to see such a wide variety of sports chosen by the pupils in addition to some highly creative methods of getting their coaching points across.
In the past a number of pupils have gone on to complete Level 1 and 2 coaching courses run by the National Governing Body for one of their favourite sports. We hope there will also be opportunities in the not so distant future for many pupils to achieve the gold and platinum awards by utilising the coaching skills they have acquired at a number of different events held at the school and in the local community.
