1st VII Rugby win the Plate at Seaford 7s

On Sunday 26 January Felsted’s 1st VII travelled to Seaford College in Petworth to kick off their Rugby 7s season.  This was the first time that we have entered this tournament which included several well-known schools such as Epsom College, Dulwich College, Bedford, Berkhamstead and Hurstpierpoint.

We were placed in a competitive pool with Hurstpierpoint, New Hall and Gordon’s School. Our first match was against Hurstpierpoint; we knew this was going to be a tough opener and we were very pleased to win this match. Our second match was against our local rivals New Hall which we won, meaning that our third pool match against Gordon’s would decide who won the pool. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to keep hold of our lead from half time, we ended up coming second in our pool and were put into the Plate Competition.

Our Semi Final match was against a physical RGS Worcester side, we were pleased to win this match 26-5 putting us into the final against hosts Seaford College. They had performed well all day so we knew that this would certainly be the toughest match of the day as both teams wanted to finish the day with silverware. The boys put in an outstanding performance in defence keeping Seaford to only 5 points and due to this strong display of defence Alfie Summers was able to capitalise on this scoring a well worked try under the posts seeing us win the match 7-5.

Thank you to Jack North (Capt), Ollie Butler, Charlie McHale, Alfie Summers, Freddie Beecroft, Max Tomlinson, Archie Douglas, Cooper Baker, Archie Faulkner, Tom Jones, Hugo Carey and Matt Fuller for their performances throughout the day and for the parents for their continued support on the sidelines.
