Match Report: Felsted School 1st XI v Felsted Robins CC, Friday 29 June 2018
Off the back of two defeats in as many years the Felsted Robins were at full strength the take on the school 1st XI on Speech Day. Winning the toss and electing to bat, club president Nigel Gadsby and Jake Foley got the Robins off to a quick start before a flurry of wickets stemmed the scoring rate. This however brought the Buttleman brothers together at the crease, who batted watchfully until lunch and eventually put on 129 for the 4th wicket giving the lower order licence to throw the bat before a generous declaration at 266-8. Joe Buttleman finished with a well deserved 103 to add to his excellent record On The Front.
As the 1st XI raced to 45 without loss, 266 did not look enough but an excellent ball by Ashley Cox removed captain Will Buttleman which changed the course of the game. With the shine off the new ball, spin pair Ben Waring and Luke Chapman turned the screw, restricting the school scoring.
Eventually the pressure told and the wickets started to fall at regular intervals with Waring picking up 6-28 leaving the 1st XI 28 runs short.
