OF Amie Offered International Criminal Court Internship

OF Amie Whittock, who attended Felsted from September 2012-14 has been offered an internship in the Investigations Department of the International Criminal Court.

She graduated with an upper second class from The University of Winchester, where she studied a Combined BA Honours in Psychology and Criminology. A description of her application process can be found below.

I aspire to become a freelance criminal investigator, an occupation I know I'm going to need to formulate a substantial portfolio for in order to prove my capabilities. After research and attempting to work out career direction after graduating, I had my mind set on travelling before building my portfolio. However in February I came across an internship but the application deadline had sadly passed. Having a desire to travel inspired me to consider such placements abroad and I fell upon the ICC website. I applied to two similarly titled opportunities both based within the Investigations Department.  Their requirements were understandably demanding and upon application I was indifferent about my chances of selection compared to other possible candidates.

Informed we would receive an email roughly one month after the application closing date, nearly 6 weeks had passed and I had accepted that I had been unsuccessful. But in the last few days of April I received an email asking if I was available for the selected duration of the internship.

I was in complete shock being a shortlisted candidate but refused to begin celebration until I knew it was a concrete decision. After various checks and exchanging of documents, on May 30th I received my acceptance email. The overwhelming sense of relief that after a 3 month process I had been selected, I feel extremely lucky to have been given such an amazing opportunity. The internship I have been accepted into is titled ‘Investigations Teams and Analysis’ and incorporates multiple elements I studied in my degree; such responsibilities include supporting preparation of evidence, formulation and use of databases, and crime pattern monitoring and analysis. I am yet to know exactly what it will entail but my acceptance email stated I will be given further instructions and details the week before I begin on July 2nd ... watch this space.
