It is with deep sadness that we report the death of John Cockett, a much-loved member of the Felsted community.
John passed away peacefully in his sleep at the weekend, aged 92. His family noted he had declined both physically and mentally quite sharply in the past 2-3 months. Nevertheless, he continued to live in Felsted with his wife Heather and live-in carers until a few days ago, when his nursing needs made a transfer to a home necessary. His passing was therefore a blessing for him, a comfort at this sad time.
John joined Felsted in 1951 as a Mathematics teacher and was Housemaster of Deacon's for over twenty years (1960-80 & 85). He was Master in Charge of cricket and held the post (coupled with running the hockey) for the best part of three decades. In the mid-1950s John ran a cricket week at the end of the summer term and this developed into the Felsted Robins CC when an official OF cricket club was formed in 1967. John retired from teaching in 1989 and returned to 'The Front' for many years at Felsted to watch the cricket.
Details about the funeral/thanksgiving arrangements will be published in due course.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Heather, his children and grandchildren at this very difficult time.
