Former International Diplomat Inspires Students

OF Matthew Kirk (g 74-78) returned to Felsted this week to deliver an inspiring talk to lower sixth students about his experiences and many different roles in the diplomatic service.

Matthew was the British Ambassador to Finland between 2002-06 and enjoyed subsequent roles at global telecommunications company, Vodafone.

Student Minty Latham was invited to meet Matthew before the talk, along with other Lower Sixth students. She explains:
On Tuesday evening I attended a dinner with Matthew Kirk, we had three tables for the dinner and rotated after each course so that we could all have the opportunity to speak to him. I joined Matthew's table for the main course along with five other students and we asked him mostly about his time at Felsted.

He told us that he was in Follyfield house and that he loved it there because they had their own dining hall and so they had the best food! After the meal we listened to Matthew's talk and I found his career move the most interesting, as it was such a great change as he retired from Diplomatic Service to take up a position as Director of External Relationships for Vodafon
