Thorne House Feast 2023

By Chloe C and Noor L, Year 12

On Saturday 4 March, Thorne celebrated our Mamma Mia inspired House Feast! We had been preparing for this night practically since we had arrived so it was really nerve wracking but also exciting for the day to finally arrive. Straight after period 3, we all got to work whether that be by polishing off acts that we were to be performing for the night or starting to decorate our common room, everyone in house was working as hard as they could so that we could have the best night possible. At around 4 o’clock, with some breaks in between, we had finally finished up in the LRH and we all rushed back to get ready in time.

Parents started arriving at around 6:15pm so Thorne was nothing less than chaotic that afternoon. We were rushing up and down the corridors, sharing hair dryers and nail polishes and it was a real moment of bonding for all of us I think. At around 6, we took one last trip to the LRH to make sure that the laptops were connected and ready to go before returning to house and having the fun begin!

We started off with some refreshments in house which gave families time to mingle and get us in the Mamma Mia mood with some of the music playing in the background. We then relocated to the BKA to have some photos taken where Matron had put together a lovely photo wall which had queues for most of the time we were there, before finally heading to the main event of the night at 7pm.

When we arrived, we all found our seats using the seating plan and all wore matching flower crowns, which was a really nice touch from Miss Donaldson. We kicked the evening off pretty much as soon as we got there with a range of acts from speeches to karaoke to poetry to even house shout once again! Regardless of who did what, everyone chipped in and either presented or performed and it was so nice to see just how well Thorne comes together in order to achieve a common goal: a brilliant night! The food served by the catering team was delicious and everyone loved it! But just because our programme for the night had finished, it didn’t mean that we were, and so we blasted some music and all of us, staff and family members included, found ourselves on the stage and just enjoying each other’s company.

Overall, House Feast really was just an amazing night filled with laughter, emotions, but most importantly, love. Everyone had put in so much effort whether that be behind the scenes or not and had no problem with helping anyone else out as and when they needed it.

A huge thank you goes out to our house staff (Miss Donaldson, Ms Fazekas, Matron and Mrs Little) for making sure that everything ran smoothly, alongside our lovely tutors and special guests on the night. Finally, a massive thank you to all of the Thorne girls this year for not only making Saturday night so special, but for making Thorne a supportive and welcoming house for us all!
