STEM Course 2023

STEM Course 2023

By William M and Dan W

The STEM 2023 course was a 5 day course (22-27 October) at Chickerell Camp in Weymouth. The course was filled with activities by lots of regiments from the Army including the Royal Engineers (RE), Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), Royal Logistics Corps, Royal Signals and the Royal Military Police.

The first full day, 8 different activities were set up by the Royal Engineers to give us an insight into what jobs they do, there was also a demonstration during lunchtime where we got to see a group of paratroopers jump out of a plane and try and land safely in a designated area which was very intriguing to watch.

On the second day there were very exciting activities where we got to interact with a robotic dog and have to wrap an egg in different materials and see if the robotic dog could pick it up without breaking it, which was one of our personal favourites. The next three days were 3 hour practical lessons and activities with the Regiment which ranged from recovering a Land Rover with REME to driving a landing craft with the Royal Engineers Marine branch and Building bridges with RE to looking and climbing round tanks and armoured vehicles with the Royal Armoured Corps.

There were social activities that you could take part in, in the afternoon, including e-sports and an airsoft range. Overall a very good trip and worth the effort.
