Monday 25 September saw the return of the Professional Guidance Department’s International University Roadshow which was held this year in the Marshall Centre for Learning. Exhibitors were on hand to offer advice and broaden the horizons of our students. They included the University of Toronto, Canada; Bard College, Berlin; High Point University, USA; Bishops University, Canada; EHL Business School, Switzerland; Les Roche & Glion Institute of Higher Education Hospitality School in Switzerland; IE University in Madrid and Segovia; Hult International Business School and The University Guys, global university application specialists. As always, the event was well attended by our Sixth Form students who were keen to discover more about studying around the world and make connections with those who will support them. It was a real pleasure to see our students growing in confidence as they approached the exhibitors and began asking questions. These positive experiences develop our youngsters’ independence and interpersonal skills as they move towards the world beyond Felsted.
A huge ‘well done’ to the many students who have remained on track with the university application process by completing their Personal Statements on time and agreeing them with their tutors. This makes the process much smoother and means we can offer them our very best support for their application. Those applying to conservatoires and competitive application such as Oxbridge, medicine, veterinary and dentistry courses are already under way and our next set of deadlines are as follows:
1 October: Students applying for European or other International courses should have notified the Director of Professional Guidance of their intended applications by this date.
2 October: UCAS Applications for all early applicants to be completed including full examinations, pending examinations and Personal Statement, submitted via UCAS to LMS. References will then be finalised and the whole application will be discussed with the Director of Professional Guidance.
30 November: FINAL date for submission of fully completed UCAS applications and Personal Statements to UCAS for Ms Scofield and Mrs Sunshine-Harris to finalise. N.B. the UCAS application form is lengthy and complex; students can attend drop in clinics for support with this to speed up the process even if they do not yet know to which courses they wish to apply.
The Professional Guidance Department is on hand at various points throughout the week to offer careers advice and guidance. Students can book a one to one appointment by emailing careersadmin@felsted.org or just drop in to our various clinics throughout the week and every Friday from 3pm in the Careers Library.
