Prep Boys' Hockey Match Reports (2 Feb 2023)

Wednesday 25 January 2022 v Orwell Park

U13A
The U13A squad hit the ground running in a fast paced match against Orwell. The opposition put Felsted under pressure by scoring first on a quick counter attack. This taught the team some lessons on defensive positioning, and after taking this onboard at half time, worked incredibly hard as a team to secure the win. The boys should be commended on how they gelled as a team, and adapted to going a goal down early on. Fantastic effort boys!

U13B
Felsted were alert from the first whistle and took an early lead, going into half time at 2-0 up. Orwell woke up in the second half, putting the boys under intense pressure. Once regaining composure, and thanks to a hat-trick from Freddie D, the final score was a well deserved 4-2 win. A real team performance, and one the boys should be proud of.

U13C
The U13C hockey team came out of the blocks hard against Orwell who found themselves 2 goals down in the opening minute. After this opening period, the game settled and slowed with Orwell showing some excellent spirit. Felsted continued to put on the pressure and walked away with 7 goals the better. This Saturday will prove to be a tougher fixture against The Perse.

U13D
An excellent first run out for the U13D team. In defence we have been working hard on making the correct passes from 16 yard hits to ensure our pattern of play includes using the width of the pitch. Following some well structured attacks we managed to put 6 goals past the Orwell defence. An excellent performance. Well done to the U13D team.

U12A
A fantastic first result in the opening fixture of the season saw Felsted complete a 4-1 win over Orwell Park. The highlight of the game was the first goal, a brilliantly executed short corner routine. This was a very good team performance, and one which bodes very well for the rest of the season.

U12B
Much credit is due to the B team, who showed a great deal of determination having conceded 3 early goals. The half time message was acted upon, and the boys played excellently in the second half of the game. There are many positives to take from the game, which served as a great opportunity to put their hard work into practice. The final score was 4-1 to Orwell Park.

U11A
A tough afternoon vs a very strong Orwell Park team. The Felsted squad played some effective attacking hockey connecting passes and building up play nicely. Execution however was our undoing. Orwell Park scored and the first half finished 0-1. With all 7 players playing the full game fatigue began to set in and Orwell Park scored 3 more. A healthy challenge for the squad which sees them playing some of their best hockey.

U11B
The U11B squad had a good afternoon vs Orwell Park. Felsted moved the ball well and found that they could win 1 v 1 situations well. The half finished 1-0, however the team were reminded not to be dragged into ‘messy’ hockey and to try and keep the game clean. The second half had tidier patches and the standard of hockey improved. The game finished with the U11Bs the victors.

U11C
A very good start to the season with the boys passing well and competing in the correct spirit.
The team scored five goals with Will S claiming four with a very calm approach in front of goal. Excellent performance to all involved. Well done.

U11D
The D team battles well against Orwell Park for a 1-1 draw. For future games we will be working on the pace of our passing and attacking down the right hand side of the field. A great start. Well done to all.

U10A
The boys had a convincing win, outplaying the opposition whilst demonstrating the ability to communicate with each other and consequently make excellent use of the space on the pitch. For the first match of the term they showed good ability to get shots on goal converting many across the game, as well as a desire to keep pushing even when they lost the ball. Next week we will aim to work on tackling technique and more refined attacking plays.

U10B
In the first hockey fixture of the year, the boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were excited to play their first game. As the game went on the boys started to play to the width which resulted in Felsted scoring. At times we would cramp to the centre of the hockey pitch. In games we will be focusing on our positional/game play.

U10C
A convincing 11-0 display from the boys started off our season in the best possible way. The boys showed what they had learnt in training sessions and games lessons. We were clinical in front of goal and the build up play was very good to see, with some goals involving some great passing. The boys also defended very well when needed, showing great composure and technique to make sure we kept a clean sheet. Well played boys.
