By Mr Mansfield

Saturday 10 June

1st XI (NDCM) v Ispwich
Ipswich: 144-6
Felsted: 90-8

Individual highlights:

  • Archie M economy rate
  • Jack R economy rate
  • George C and Stefan S partnership

On a scorching hot day, Felsted won the toss and elected to field first against Ipswich. Ipswich started steadily and gradually increased their scoring rate, eventually posting an impressive total of 144 runs from their 20 overs. Jack R and Archie M bowled exceptionally well for Felsted, taking crucial wickets and keeping the opposition's run flow in check.

In response, Felsted struggled initially to get the bowling away, but George C and Stefan S formed a strong partnership that breathed life into their innings. Both batsmen played spin particularly well and scored freely. However, despite their efforts, Felsted fell short of the target.

2nd XI (NFT) v Ispwich
Lost by 30 runs
Ipswich 150 for 3 off 20 overs
Felsted 120 for 9 off 20 overs

Individual highlights:

  • Bowling - George D 4 overs for 24 1 maiden, Hugh H 3 overs for 20, Charlie A 4 overs for 14 2 wickets, including a wicket maiden
  • Batting - Alfie H 19 runs

Ipswich batted well with one individual scoring 94 not out. Felsted had their chances to limit the score but we dropped 4 catches at key times. Our middle set of bowlers limited Ipswich’s scoring and reduced the run rate.

Our batting started strongly and good running between the wicket kept the run rate to 7 an over. We faltered in the middle order and kept losing wickets just as we were getting going. A good effort to get to 120.

3rd XI (WCR) v Ipswich
Felsted 108/7
Ipswich 109/4

Individual highlights:

  • Buddy O with 41 off the bat
  • Max O’s two superb overs
  • Oscar G behind the stumps
  • Adam B’s bowling

It was Toby C and Austin S who opened the batting for Felsted in very hot conditions. Toby looked promising early, scoring some lovely runs, against a tricky attack from the home side. But was unfortunately dismissed in the third over. Felsted was on track to a projected score of 135 by the tenth over. But some very good bowling and fielding saw the home side get some crucial wickets to see Felsted off with a tally of 108 runs off of the 20 overs.

It was Felsted’s turn to launch their attack through Kabir, a lovely first over had the batters on their toes. The home side soon found their groove and started to score quick runs. It looked to be a thrilling innings under way. A couple of wickets fell at the hands of Adam and Austin. One of Ipswich’s openers remained at the crease and looked to be the main threat, a crucial wicket from Max O saw him dismissed on 50. With time running out Felsted threw everything at the home side as they approached 100 with 4 overs remaining. But the innings came to a close with Ipswich finishing on 109 runs with 2 overs remaining.

Many thanks to all the boys involved, commendable effort all round.

4th XI (DWH) v Ipswich
74 all out

  • Will Pr Bowling
  • Patient Batting
  • Great fielding

Captaining the side for the first time Harry M elected to field first, a decision that was soon rewarded with Will Pr bowling the opening batsman out in the first over, however some great bowling from all of the boys wasn’t enough to break an Ipswich partnership which saw both batsmen into the 40’s. The partnership was broken later by Tommy P, the innings came to a close with Harry M getting a deserved wicket after his constant encouragement and support for his team mates. Chasing down 173 is a tough ask for any team but the boys were patient in their batting but unfortunately it wasn't enough due to some great bowling from Ipswich. In what was a tough game for the boys overall they played very well and we come away with lots of positives.

Many thanks to Zac O’D , Luca P and Kier M who stepped in at the last minute and did a great job for the team.
