Model United Nations - ROYMUN5

By Mrs F Hitchcock

Thank you to all of the Felsted pupils who took part in ROYMUN5, the fifth Model United Nations conference, run last weekend by the wonderful Mrs Janine Routledge at Royal Hospital School. FPS pupils were either invited to take part as a result of their excellent contributions to the debates at the Felsted MUN in February, or were lucky enough to have their names drawn in a ballot.

All pupils contributed to the lively and interesting debates which took place in committee rooms on Saturday. The topics debated included the organisation of aid following extreme weather crises in the Security Council, promoting economic and social inclusion of refugees in host countries in the Human Rights Committee, the implications of rising nationalism and populism on global governance in the Political Committee, sustainable urbanisation and the future of cities in the Environment Committee and addressing the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the Disarmament Committee.

After listening to the Guest Speaker sharing his journey and thoughts on the rise of AI technology on Sunday morning, the fictitious AI infiltration crisis brought countries together in committees to find a way to ensure the survival of the human race. Debates revealed vivid imaginations and confident speaking skills.

Charlotte H was interviewed by the press team at RHS and commented,”MUN for me is about meeting new, like-minded people and having so much fun debating.”

Well done to all of the Felsted delegates for taking part in the weekend with such enthusiasm and congratulations to Zach O’D for receiving a commended delegate certificate from the chairs of the Political Committee.
