House Quiz (Spring Term 2024 - Week 6)

House Quiz (Spring Term 2024 - Week 6)

by Dr T Strange

Last Friday saw the conclusion of the league round of the Junior House Quiz competition, with the race for the last semi-final spots being decided. In the first Junior match the Follyfield team of Loretta S, Eloise C, Beth E and Florence K put up a brave fight against a very strong Mont’s team of James D, Bertie H, Felix S-O’B and Hugh G. The Follyfield team had some bad luck on the buzzer, but ultimately Mont’s knowledge of literary terms, chemistry, and Premier League footballers saw them take the match 410-10. In the second Junior match, Stocks’s had a potential chance to claim a semi-final place, but to do so they would have to overcome an incredibly strong Gepp’s team, who have proven tough competitors all season. The Stocks’s team of Emmy F, Emma M, Jemima B, and Olivia F put up a tough fight with a good understanding of parts of the body in French and countries in North America. The Gepp’s team of Henry F, Tom A, Hamish C and Ollie C proved to be too strong, however, with their understanding of biology and famous Britons, taking the win by 180-130.

In the Senior match, Manor took on Stocks’s with both teams knowing that they would be unable to reach the semi-finals. In a closely fought competition, the Stocks’s team of Martha M, Isla I, Olivia R, and Lauren R started strongly with their knowledge on Aristotle, before the Manor team of Jorja B, Tegan C, Bella D, and Nataliah F slowly clawed their way back with their understanding of Latin phrases. By the end of the match, it was Manor who came away with the win 80-50.

The first week back after half term sees the first of the Junior semi-finals, with Gepp’s taking on Elwyn’s, followed by the concluding matches in the Senior league rounds. Only a few weeks now until we discover who will lift the trophies this season!
