House Quiz (02.02.24 Spring Term 2024)

House Quiz (02.02.24 Spring Term 2024)

by Dr T Strange

Last Friday saw the return of the Seniors to the House Quiz, with the competition for the semi-final places heating up. The Garnetts team of Grace P, Izzy W, Danielle F, and Michaela H took a strong step towards a semi-final spot with a 220-70 win over Stocks’s. The Stocks’s team of Olivia R, Anna W, Ava R, and Lauren R put up a strong fight with their knowledge of the Bible and different sauces, but ultimately the Garnetts knowledge of French verbs, music artists, and halogens secured them the win. They will now go into their last match against Gepp’s knowing that whoever wins will go through to the semi-finals.

The second Senior match saw a straight shoot-out between Follyfield and Elwyn’s, with the winner being guaranteed a semi-final space. This cagey and tightly-fought match saw the Elwyn’s team of Joseph B, Kilian K, Felix S, and Arthur M-B take an early lead with their knowledge on cake, but the Follyfield team of Mae P, Loretta S, Lois P, and Phoebe H come back strongly with good answers on the prevention of diseases. At the final gong the two teams were tied on 80 points each. The tie-break starter question, “What is the most populated city in India”, saw both teams race for the buzzer, but Elwyn’s got there a fraction faster with the correct answer of “Mumbai”, so took the win, and the semi-final place, by 90-80.

In the Junior match, Manor took on Follyfield. This was another tightly fought contest; the Follyfield team of Thabiso C, IBK F, Sissy S, and Eloise C showing excellent knowledge of popular music, but the Manor team of Amelia R, Amrit T, Maia T, and Anna S-O’B proved just too strong, taking the match by 130-110 and booking themselves a semi-final place.

This Friday sees Follyfield take on Mont’s and Gepp’s take on Stocks’s in the Junior competition, while Manor take on Stocks’s in the Senior competition, and the race is heating up to grab those last semi-final places.
