New Patron of Felsted Art

Felsted Art and Art History Departments are delighted to announce that Julia Abel Smith, who was the 833rd and sixth lady High Sheriff of Essex from 2013 to 2014, has kindly agreed to take on the Honorary position of Patron.

After gaining a degree in History of Art from Cambridge, Julia Abel Smith has worked for SAVE Britain’s Heritage, a pressure group campaigning for the preservation of historic buildings with an emphasis on their alternative use. At the Landmark Trust, a charity which restores unusual buildings and gives them a future by letting them for holidays, she enjoyed doing historical research.

For Art UK, Julia has recorded the paintings in public ownership in Essex and at Cambridge University.  She is now recording the publicly owned sculpture in Essex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire and looks forward to working at the Henry Moore Foundation near Much Hadham and getting to know the sculptures in and around Harlow, Essex’s sculpture town.

Julia is a Governor of Felsted School and says she is, “honoured to have been asked to become the Patron for the Department for Art and Art History”
