House Singing Competition 2019

After many weeks of rehearsals across the school campus, the evening of Thursday 17 October saw the annual House Singing Competition.

The event started in Chapel with each house presenting their Part Songs. The standard of the entries this year was high and we were treated to a range of musical styles and ingenious arrangements. After much deliberation, Mont’s won the Junior House Part Song Competition with an excellent performance of ‘For the longest time’ by Billy Joel, with Manor coming second and Thorne third. In the Senior Competition, Windsor’s took home the trophy with an entertaining medley.

The competition moved to the Lord Riche Hall for the much anticipated Unison Song Competition. All the houses performed with great energy, commitment and enthusiasm. The dance moves were polished and the conductors’ costumes added flair to the evening’s proceedings.

Stocks’s were announced the winner of the Junior House Unison Song Competition singing Star Girl by McFly. Manor came in a close second with ‘Forget You’ by CeeLo Green, with Thorne taking third place performing ‘Price Tag’ by Jessie J. Garnett’s were the successful winners of the Senior House Unison Song Competition.

Throughout the whole competition, points were awarded for every entry and after some quick maths took place, it was announced that Garnett’s were the overall winners of the House Singing Competition 2019!

I would like to thank our adjudicator for the evening, Mr Duncan Barlow, for his insightful comments and supportive feedback. Duncan is Director of Music and Creative Arts at Norwich High School for Girls. ‘Mr Thear’s All Star Band’ were in action accompanying all the Houses in the evening and were brilliant as always. Lastly, a massive thank you and well done to all the students for helping to make the whole House Singing Competition such a success.
