Gold for Felsted’s Kaylea at Southend Music Festival

For the fifth year in a row, Felsted’s Kaylea Childs (Yr 9) entered the Southend Music Festival and competed in various classes on Sunday 10 November.

Kaylea achieved Gold in the ‘Violin and Piano Duet Class’ with a rendition of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, arr. Roy and Rosemary.

She achieved Gold and awarded The Jena Pang-Brenda Farrow Rose Bowl in the ‘Under 15s Violin Solo Category’ for her performance of Obertass by H. Wieniawski. Kaylea also won Gold and The Leona Phillips Challenge Cup for ‘violin duet (any age)’ with Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Brahms.

In addition to this, Kaylea competed in two other mixed strings classes where she was the youngest competitor and achieved Honours for both classes.

The Music Department is very proud of Kaylea’s fantastic achievements at the Southend Music Festival and delighted that she has been invited to perform in the Southend Music Festival Winner's Concert on Sunday 24 November 2019.
