Germanists Enjoy Onatti Performance

This week, we were delighted to be able to offer all our Germanists in Years 7 to 11 the chance to take a break from their busy schedules and watch a play. Thanks to a generous donor, who wanted to support enrichment in the German Department, our pupils were treated to a visit from Onatti Productions Ltd who performed their comedy Horoskop in the Hunt Theatre.

The play was entirely in German and afterwards our pupils felt full of confidence that they had heard words and phrases they recognised and been able to use visual clues which enabled them to follow the story throughout.

Huge thanks to Ms Fazekas, Mr Scholz, Mrs Hitchcock, Ms Love, and of course our donor, for all their work in making this happen.

Pupils Reviews:

On Wednesday afternoon, those who are taking German in Years 9, 10 and 11 saw a production company perform Horoskop which is a play that was performed entirely in German. It was a good time as the performance was highly engaging and was of a very high standard. I think that most students would have been surprised as the play was very intuitive and easy to follow along despite the show being completely in German.

I was lucky enough to watch the German play that was put on for pupils that do German from Years 7 to 11. When I first found out that we were watching a German play I thought I would find it hard to understand what they were saying because we aren’t fluent in the language.

When we started watching the play, the actors spoke really slowly and made it easy for us to understand what they were saying, their actions were really clear too. Personally my favourite part of the play was when the two main characters, Mia and Chris, kept spraying each other with water over the fence. I think watching the play really improved my learning and I think the school should start doing it for more languages.

On Wednesday afternoon, Years 7 to 11 German students went to see a German play performance by a company called Onatti. Before the play we were excited and ready as many of us had not seen a play in all German before. We were also a bit nervous as the whole play was all in German and because of this we might not have understood it properly however the company was very good in using simple phrases and hand gestures to help us understand it further. I think that personally it was a fantastic experience as it was a chance to broaden and use German skills outside the classroom in a different environment.

Overall I am really thrilled that I had the chance to go to this play. The actors and set were amazing and it was a wonderful chance to have.
