By William Warns, Felsted's Director of Music

On Friday 28 February, The Felsted Music Department hosted its annual Felsted Musician of the Year Competition. The day included around 100 performances, from 9am until 5:45pm. The level of musicianship on display during the day was excellent and all the audiences were treated to delightful performances from all the students in the competition. 

In the evening, we returned for the Finalists’ Concert where all the winners performed again to compete for the overall prize of ‘Felsted Musician of the Year’. After some exceptional performances from everyone, eventually Sana A-J was crowned the overall winner. 
 

We were delighted to welcome Mr Colin Dowdeswell to adjudicate the competition and we are grateful for his supportive and encouraging comments to each performer. Colin studied violin, piano and conducting at the Royal College of Music and then started his teaching career at Felsted School, before moving on to Blundell’s School. From 1983-2010 he was Director of Music at Norwich Sshool, and in 2011 he was awarded the MBE for services to music. 

I would like to thank and congratulate everyone who took part in the competition and help to make the day such a success.
