On the Friday before half term the whole Prep School gathered in the Roed Hall to compete in our annual Music Competition. All pupils from Year 3-8 had been busy rehearsing with their League Choirs and each League performed a brilliant song for the competition. The hall was adorned with art work and there was great excitement amongst pupils and staff in anticipation of the competition. We were not disappointed!
Each League was also represented by a junior and senior soloist, and by an ensemble. The judge for the day, professional musician and educator Mr Alistair Walker, was greatly impressed by the high standard of music throughout the competition and had a difficult job deciding on the score for each category.
Lord Riche were the overall winners by the narrowest of margins. This was well deserved with strong performances across all categories. They sang, 'I'll be there for you', and their ensemble gave a fabulous rendition of 'The Wellerman'. Smythies ensemble matched the top score with a lively 'Twist and Shout', and Gaselee scored top in the League Song with 'Higher Power'.
A particular mention to the soloists who all held their nerve to show off a very high standard of musicianship. Well done to Lucas Y and Layla E for winning their categories.
It really was a joy to be able to run such a big whole school event once again. Many thanks to the Heads of League and the whole staff team for ensuring the event ran safely, and ensuring that the event was such a success.
