Felsted Encourages Artistic Talent

Felsted Prep School welcomed 60 of the most able and talented young musicians, designers, actors and artists from across Essex for a Very Able Pupil Day celebrating the Arts. The Year 5 pupils were nominated by their school to take part in the event, which gave them the opportunity to extend their knowledge and develop their skills in a series of challenging workshops based around the theme of ‘The Little Mermaid’.

The Art workshop focused on the use of colour and tone, to enable pupils to design their own paintings. In Design and Technology the children developed new skills in pewter casting to create their own individual styled pendants.

Parents were invited to view the Art and Design exhibition whilst at the same time other talented young actors performed short drama pieces, to reflect scenes from the Little Mermaid musical. The dramatic nature of the acting was enhanced by the musical workshop where the children learned rhythms and devised a unique orchestral piece, designed to ‘Under the Sea'.

The culmination of their efforts was a fantastic reflection of creativity and expression from across the county.

Felsted’s Very Able Pupil Co-ordinator, Mrs Christina Bury, commented; “We are fortunate to have outstanding subject specialists at Felsted who have the skills, knowledge and understanding to provide challenging and inspirational learning experiences.
