Felsted Art - Creativity Does Not Stop at Home
By Mrs E Jackson, Head of Art
Although Felsted Artists have been disappointed not to be back in the studio this month, we have been making up for it through creative ingenuity and resourcefulness. Working with the motto 'Creativity Does Not Stop At Home' pupils from all year groups have been busily exploring a variety of media, techniques and ideas.
Year 9 Artists have been inspired by William Morris in their pattern-making designs, combining their hand drawn motifs with computer technology to create eye catching pattern repeats. Year 10 have started to refine their own ideas within the umbrella of their 'Natural Forms' project and we will be sharing more of their work soon.
Year 11, 12 and 13 have continued to develop their own individual themes but have also been experimenting with some surprising techniques and media. In the first week, they loosened up their creativity by trying out the 'Squiggle Drawing' method. This involves mark-making on a subconscious level and then find shapes and images within the chaotic 'squiggle'. They then went on to create their own handmade 'Art Tools' which they used for experimental mark-making.
After that, they have explored tonal drawing with ink and biro, as well as creating their own eye catching compositions by recycling household materials such as plastic bags, foil, fruit netting and food packaging. Some of this was fused together with heat to create tactile pieces of Art.
Pupils have also been sent on a virtual 'Global Inspiration' Art Gallery visit, with the task of finding inspiration across the globe - I have created an interactive Global Art Gallery Hub which takes pupils to worldwide galleries at the click of a button. Watch this space to see where their 'travels' take them!
