At Felsted, Richard was a scholar and chairman of the Young Areopagites debating society before going on to read English Literature at Durham University.
Following his graduation in 1987, he joined the BBC and worked on numerous TV programmes including Going Live!, Top of the Pops and Wogan. He became a freelance director/producer on shows like The Disney Club and The Big Breakfast before returning to the BBC to direct Record Breakers and Tomorrow's World. In 1998, he joined Blue Peter as a producer and was Editor from 2003-2007 during which time he won a BAFTA award and was invited to present a copy of his ‘Blue Peter 50th anniversary’ book to Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
He continues to work as an Executive Producer, most recently on CBBC's Our School, and he is the author of several books.
