LEAP 2018

One week before the official start of school, Felsted welcomes the new overseas pupils for an induction course (LEAP). This year saw pupils joining us in Elwyn House, from China, Russia, Italy, Germany, Spain, Singapore, Mexico, Bermuda, Estonia, Luxembourg and Switzerland, a truly international group!

The week is crucial for pupils to learn about what to expect from life at Felsted, get to know the school premises and, of course, form friendships which often last a lifetime.

Parents and family members are invited to join us on the first day, and to have lunch with the Headmaster, Deputy Heads, House staff, and Heads of Departments.

The week was a packed programme of activities, lessons and excursions. Activities included zorbing, pizza night, dodgeball, netball, orienteering and a team building activity afternoon. Pupils also had lessons in a range of subjects including Government and Politics, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Classics, History, English and Drama, as well as sessions on the school timetable, what is CCF/DofE/ PSHE and Felsted slang and lingo. There was time to get to know the layout of the school, visit the tailors shop, the bookshop, the Boote House.

There were excursions to London (to see the musical 'Wicked'), Cambridge (punting and shopping), a trip to Colchester Zoo, bowling, Jump Street, Freeport and a trip to an outside activity centre.

Throughout the week pupils were in groups, planning to present a fundraising idea for the Felsted charities, Dragon’s Den style. The ideas were absolutely fantastic, and the winners will be part of the group planning their event for real this academic year.

The IB pupils even went off for a night camping locally – a team-building exercise and induction to the IB programme with Mrs Woodhouse, the Director of IB.

It was great to see everyone thoroughly enjoying their time, making friends, and feeling equipped to start their new lives at Felsted.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, especially catering and stewards, all of the LEAP staff (many of whom were OF’s), the LEAP tour guides (current Felsted pupils): Jordan, Harvey, Daniel, Amber, Rory, Fiora, Hannah, Franky, Alex, Lydia, Ewan and Fiora, Matron for the week (Mrs Ailsa Stevens, Elwyn Matron), Felsted Common Room, and Daniel Emmerson, (Director of Global Education).

The staff made everything more comfortable and welcoming
