By Fiora Moscuzza, Year 12
In October 2019 I spent three weeks on a Round Square exchange in Colombia. For the first two weeks I stayed with a host family in Bogotá, attending school from Monday to Friday.
At the weekends I was shown different parts of the city, immersing myself in Colombian Spanish and culture. On my final week I was fortunate enough to participate in a trip to the Colombian and Peruvian parts of the Amazon Rainforest.
During the trip I took part in various different activities, some of the highlights included:
- Spending a night in the house of an indigenous family, learning about their way of life.
- Zip lining through the rainforest.
- Sleeping outside in a hammock in the middle of the jungle.
- Kayaking down the river, being surrounded by the biodiversity of the jungle.
The whole experience was a huge eye opener for me. Not only did my Spanish improve significantly, moreover I experienced the culture, society and beauty of the country, making lifelong friends from across the world.
