Making a Difference at Felsted Prep

Many of our Prep pupils have been making a difference during the lockdown, taking part in fundraising activities for a number of charities, as well as getting involved with the whole school Felsted 5 Challenge. Please find here some fantastic examples of pupils making a difference.

Ben M has set himself the challenge of cycling 1000 miles for the ‘Little Bleeders’ Charity before his return to school. ‘Little Bleeders’ supports young children with haemophilia to help them access sports activities. The charity was founded by a professional road cyclist, Alex Dowsett, who is local to the area. Ben was inspired to do this challenge because, just before Christmas, he saw Alex on a training ride just outside Chelmsford. After some research about Alex, Ben found out that Alex is a haemophiliac himself and that he is the only known professional sports person with this condition. Inspired by the fact that it is possible to succeed even when you face major challenges Ben set himself the challenge of raising £500 by completing his 1000 miles. He now has less than a week to go and has so far raised over £1000!.

The ‘Little Bleeders’ Charity would like to use the money that Ben raises to help children with haemophilia to access sports coaching (such as swimming and cycling lessons).

Brother and Sister Charlie (Year 7) and Ellie R (Yr 4) have been raising money with Chelmsford Rugby Club, initially setting out to raise £1,920 for Chelmsford food bank and to cover the distance from Chelmsford to Johannesburg. The minis and their families have now been all the way to Johannesburg and back and are still going!  They have covered a remarkable 37,000 km and are now aiming to circumnavigate the globe and cover 40,075 km.  The fundraising target of £1,920 has also been smashed with funds raised now in excess of £12,000. The club has done a great job of generating some media interest as well with an interview on BBC Essex and a long feature on Anglia news.

Leo S (Yr 7) and his brother William (Yr 4) have raised over £4600 for Crisis UK by each taking on a virtual challenge to complete during the 75 days of the Spring Term.

Leo has undertaken the world-renowned 874 mile cycle challenge from Lands End to John O'Groats, averaging over 11.5 miles per day, whilst his brother William has been climbing over 77 flights of stairs a day in his quest to virtually climb Mount Everest. The boys have done a tremendous job tackling their respective challenges for over 50 days straight. Leo has already covered over 700 miles and William has now reached base camp, 5,200m above sea level.
