Felsted Pride Society

Felsted Pride is a LGBTQ+ awareness and support group which was set up to raise awareness and acceptance of diversity across the school whether that is gender, sexuality, racial or cultural diversity.

Our aim is to educate everyone about the LGBTQ+ community and what exactly this community is, alongside providing a safe place for members of the community to discuss issues surrounding identity. We hope that with education, awareness and open support, people will feel comfortable being themselves within the Felsted community. The group is open to both teachers and students who identify as LGBTQ+, and allies.

This May, following the murder of George Floyd, protests broke out across the world. His murder and injustice along with Breonna Taylor’s and many others, led to a global spark and acknowledgement that we can all do better.

We wish to carry this spark throughout the Felsted community so, every Monday lunch time, until year groups can mix again,  we are holding a Google Meet. The link is on posters in houses. We will be discussing different topics, experiences and ideas for further awareness and education. If you wish to take part in this group please email Ms Scofield (lms@felsted.org) and please remember the school always offers support if you need it, via wellbeing@felsted.org.

Members of the Pride Society are representing LGBT+ issues on the broader Diversity Committee and working with the whole community on ways to raise awareness and visibility surrounding issues relating to all the protected characteristics (as identified in the 2010 Equalities Act).
