Felsted School hosted its ninth Model United Nations (MUN) conference with 17 schools from across the region attending, including a selection of delegates from Felsted Prep. 

Pupils represented different countries, voicing the nation’s opinions with the aim of bringing about positive change. The delegates came together to discuss and debate the ever present issues of gender equality and how as a society we can use privilege to support social change.

Those in attendance were privileged to hear from Katie Maude-Barker, the Senior Development Manager of CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education), an organisation that tackles poverty and inequality by supporting education opportunities for girls. She spoke about the sexism of poverty and how “the culture of poverty keeps girls out of school, not the poverty of culture.” 

With the under thought of equality and social change vivid in the minds of delegates, they debated a variety of other topics including human rights in India, renewable energy in the West, International healthcare, and the importance of young people in politics.

The debates were of an immensely high standard and the speeches were both touching and motivating.  Everyone involved is already looking forward to the next conference at Felsted.
