Educationally Enriching Trips for Felsted Students

Felsted students were dotted across the globe during half term on educationally enriching trips to enhance their experience and understanding of their day to day learning.

A group of students embarked on yet another successful trip to Mumbai in support of the Magic Bus charity, run by former Felstedian, Matthew Spacie MBE. This unique programme, offered annually, gives pupils the opportunity to engage in inner-city community projects in Mumbai, as well as help plan a day of sport and fun for the children near the Magic Bus Centre in Karjat, about 75 miles outside of the city. In temperatures often exceeding 35 degrees they put together a unique programme for children who had not even ventured beyond their own small village. The Felsted pupils also had the chance to dig a trench ready to lay a water pipe which would save the villagers a 200m trip over difficult terrain to the closest well. This further highlighted the important work that Magic Bus does in the poorer communities of India and how the fundraising at Felsted has helped make a difference to these children’s lives.

Meanwhile, another group of students travelled to The Hague to attend the annual Model United Nations of The International School of The Hague (MUNISH). The delegates took part in a range of debates covering topics such as the Vietnam War, Nuclear disarmament in the Middle East and the importance of compromise.

Felsted Upper Sixth Business and Economics students visited New York, supporting their curriculum by taking trips to the United Nations headquarters, the financial district, and ITV America. They learnt about the work of the organisations and received an insight into the marketing and development involved in keeping a business alive.
History students visited Berlin, where they supported their studies of the Second World War with trips to the Jewish Museum, Holocaust Memorial, Topography of Terror and Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. Meanwhile, Felsted Classics students travelled around Greece, experiencing the history and culture of Athens, Delphi, Olympia and Tolo, through visits to the Parthenon in the Acropolis, the Archaeological Museum, Mount Parnassus, the Temple of Zeus, and Epidauros, the Greek religious sanctuary to Asclepius.
