Doddie Active Inter-District Challenge - Cycling 1000 Miles

Mr A Le Chevalier, Director of Rugby

Towards the end of December, I was asked to take part in the Doddie Active Inter-District Challenge which is in aid of the ‘My Name’s Doddie Foundation’.

Ex International Rugby Player Doddie Weir set up this foundation; it is committed to helping improve the lives of those affected by Motor Neuron Disease. The Inter-District challenge is a mass participation exercise event running through January 2021. It is split up into five teams and I was honoured to be asked to represent the Glasgow team by Kelly Brown ex Scotland Captain making me an honorary Glaswegian.

I felt passionate about taking part in this due to having played a couple of times against Doddie and also with him in a charity match. The idea of the challenge is to pledge a certain distance that you think you can cover throughout the month.

I pledged to cover 500 miles by cycling. By the 20th of the month, I had already reached my goal so I decided to carry on with a new goal of reaching 818 miles which is equivalent to 31 marathons. I am happy to say that on the 31st of January I had covered 853 miles and thought that the challenge had finished, however, I discovered that the event had been extended until the start of the Calcutta Match on Saturday 6 February. So with this news, I extended my pledge to 1000 miles!
