Young Voices, Big Readers & Mini Heads

Young Voices, Big Readers & Mini Heads

Dear Felsted families,

As I write this today, we have so many excited children who are ready to perform at this year’s Young Voices event. Many of you may even be reading this newsletter while sitting in the audience waiting to give your support to our young performers. The songs as always are inspirational and fun but being part of something that brings young learners together from across the region is an unforgettable experience. More photos to come next week I am sure!

Last week, pupils took part in a special assembly celebrating reading as part of the National Year of Reading 2026. Mr Dell and Mrs Galbraith talked about why reading matters more than ever, how it shapes imagination, vocabulary and wellbeing, and how becoming a reader often starts with finding one book that truly sparks joy.

With World Book Day coming up in March, children are already feeling excited. They will be receiving their World Book Day token, which can be exchanged for a free book or used towards a book of their choice. This year, we are also encouraging creativity with literary hats alongside any book-inspired costumes!

We would love to encourage families to support reading at home by:

  • Sharing reading time together, even for a few minutes each day
  • Talking about books your child enjoys (any genre counts!)
  • Letting children see adults reading for pleasure
  • Visiting libraries or bookshops together where possible

We know that all reading is valuable whether it is fiction, non-fiction, comics, poetry and audiobooks included. Thank you for helping us foster positive reading habits and a lifelong love of books at home and I hope this inspires some extra reading for you too!

Tomorrow, I may be melting into the background as the first ‘Heads for the Day’ take over the school. From extra breaktimes to sweet treats for snacktime to meeting various members of the team, the experience hopes to shine a light on the fun parts of being a Head.

As an extra reminder, our Heads have both opted to declare a ‘non-uniform day’ and all children in the Prep school are invited to wear their own clothes to school tomorrow.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead with your families,

Warm wishes,

Miranda
