Sparkle and Run
I hope that you are all having a very good start to the new school year. It has been so good to see everyone back and especially to meet all of our new pupils who are busy settling in, meeting new people and making new connections. Last weekend, at the first of the Heads' Seminars, Miranda and I spoke about friendship, and how important it is that we encourage our children to be open to new friendships, and to be proud of them when they make new friends. It can be a daunting process starting a new school, so even a small voice of support makes a difference.

I would like to highlight a couple of events that are coming up soon in our calendar. Next Tuesday, we are very fortunate to have David Dein MBE coming to speak to our pupils (4.30pm, Grignon Hall). All of our sixth formers will be at this talk, but anyone else who is interested is also welcome to join us. David was heavily involved with Arsenal back in the days of Arsene Wenger, instrumental in their new stadium and also one of the main people who drove forward the Premier League. This was probably one of the biggest changes to the sporting landscape in the last fifty years.
Second, we are hosting the Felsted Colour Run on Friday 19 September (3pm). This is an event that involves all of the senior pupils (and staff) in raising funds for our school charities. It promises to be a great deal of fun, and is one of the most popular events that we run, but in order to be able to help our charities we are relying on the generosity of our families. You will have received a message asking for contributions towards the day, and if we can get the whole community involved, we would hope that we can raise close to £10,000 to support the eight school charities.
Rather than this just be another line on the bill, I have encouraged all of your sons and daughters to offer to do chores to earn their contribution, or seek sponsorship towards that amount. Alternatively perhaps they could go without a couple of trips to Linsell's, or a takeaway in order to support their house and school charities. I know that many of you will already be supporting other charities, and I have seen some remarkable achievements from Felsted pupils over the summer, but I really hope that we can come together as a community and make a real difference through our efforts, while having a great deal of fun.
Finally, I have just sent a final reminder for any last minute takers for tickets at the Friends of Felsted Ball (Saturday 27 September). There are still a few tickets remaining, and if you would like to be there, please do get in touch and reserve your seats.
Have a great weekend when it comes, and I am sure that many of you will be cheering on the Felsted teams in Saturday's fixtures.
Chris Townsend,
Head, Felsted School
