Senior Head's Blog: Appointment of New Deputy Head (Academic)

I am delighted to begin this week with news of the appointment of our new Deputy Head (Academic), Lorne Stefanini.  Lorne moves up from her current role, following the appointment of Sarah Capewell as Head of Stockport Grammar School, and will bring a great many skills and much experience to the role, from her time at Felsted, and in previous roles at Morpeth and Camden Schools.  Lorne is looking forward to taking a strategic lead in developing, promoting and sustaining the highest quality of learning, teaching and academic ethos across the whole school.

Lorne has already been working closely with our teachers on their professional learning and improvement and sees that as a key part of ensuring the best quality provision, as well as recognising the benefits of delivering this not just in the senior part of the school, but across the whole of the Felsted community.  She took a key role during the pandemic in developing our online and hybrid approaches to learning and has also been closely involved in key areas such as Academic Enrichment, Professional Guidance, Project Learning and Support for Learning in addition to leading a number of academic departments.

Lorne has developed our own Google Microsite (the Teaching and Learning Hub) which brings together information, advice and strategies to help to develop a very strong learning culture.  I believe that Lorne is ideally placed to help Felsted to build on its success of recent years, during which time we have achieved our best ever results in all of GCSE, A Level and International Baccalaureate, and had over 90% of applicants reach their first choice university destination in 2022.

I am also delighted to announce that the new Housemaster of Elwyn's House from September will be Mr Elliott Grant, who takes over from Tom Galvin at the end of this year.  My grateful thanks to Tom for all of his hard work in the house over the past years, and I wish Elliott and Olivia every success as they move into the house this summer, where they will work alongside the established team of Adrian Pask, Aidan Quinlan and Tracey Skittrall.

Have a very good exeat weekend.
