Prep Head's Blog: It's a Marathon, not a Sprint

In his blog this week, Mr Townsend describes the wonderful feeling of success that follows many months of dedicated training. Completing a marathon for some may seem an unattainable goal, but I believe the inspiration that can be taken from hearing stories of such achievements can be a significant motivating force.

The saying ‘it’s a marathon, not a sprint’ is often used around this time of year. I have used it myself as a note of well meant caution for colleagues and friends, as the Summer Term is packed full and seems to gather momentum quickly. Our aim this term is to ensure that we keep up that level of determination for all our learners alongside enabling them to take time to relish the successes.

Mr Fincher’s assembly this week highlighted the importance of ‘grit’ and how success arrives only after the effort stage. Falling down and making mistakes is a natural part of the process and school is a safe place to make those mistakes. Arguably, the most important part of learning is being able to get back up, dust yourself off and try again.

This term will see all our children begin to look towards September with a mixture of excitement and perhaps a dash of nervousness. In the coming weeks, we will be hosting meetings that will help gently guide this process and give you all the information you need to support your children. Please rest assured that this will be managed in small nuggets so that there is time to enjoy the term’s events and milestones that make the Summer Term so special.

This Monday is a chance to pause and take a moment to rest, relax and remember that it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

With warm wishes,
