Prep Head's Blog: A Truly Sustainable School Community

The first league chapel service of the year was superbly led by Mr Manley and the Gaselee League team this week and it centred on the message of community. Over the next few weeks, the theme of the chapel services will build on our shared experiences of working ‘as’ and ‘for’ our community.

What does community mean to you? What are the characteristics of our community? How do we involve every member of our community?

Pupil led services and assemblies are part of the culture at Felsted and today we invited Miss Thompson to share a further call to action with a sustainability focused session. I am delighted that the formation of a new sustainability group has been initiated and the ideas for how we can continue to make our school community truly sustainable. A reprisal of the ‘Eco-Warrior’ badge is on its way!

The NSSSC (The Not So Secret Snack Committee) group will be leading an assembly after half term to share their thoughts about sustainable and healthy foods and the progress they have made so far. They have grown in numbers so that they now have representatives from across the school and their enthusiasm remains high.

Felsted has an incredibly strong record of helping those outside our communities and previous collections, drives and offers of practical help have resulted in positive impact. I know that when there are tragedies such as the horrific earthquake this week, communities naturally come together to want to help. There are many agencies who are currently raising funds and who have flown specialists in to help. The DEC have an urgent appeal for help and their website can be found here: Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal

Our thoughts are with the families and the teams of rescue workers who are working valiantly in freezing conditions to help locate survivors and help those who have lost loved ones in this heartbreaking disaster.

Thank you as always and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead with your loved ones.

Warm wishes,

Miranda Norris,
Head, Felsted Prep
