Incredible Every Day

Incredible Every Day

I would like to take a moment to thank all of the Felsted musicians and music staff for an incredible Swing into Spring last Friday night.  From the drum parade at the beginning to the marvellous rendition of New York, New York at the end, it was a fabulous celebration of music. I am not sure that a Steel Band has ever previously played Ozzy Osbourne, accompanied by an electric guitar solo, but it worked!  Also, to see the Prep and Senior choirs combine to sing songs from my own favourite musical, Matilda, was wonderful, and the enjoyment of those on stage was evident to all.

As the term comes towards its end, I am reflecting more and more on all of the incredible things that our pupils do, day in and day out.  The Model United Nations conference was a tribute to the academic curiosity and global mindedness of Felstedians. This week's Lent Addresses have challenged pupils to think deeply about purpose in life. In the last few days, we have become county champions in Cricket (girls Under 15 indoor team), Rugby (boys Under 15 team) and next Monday, our Under 15 Netball team will play their national semi final (on the back of the Under 14 girls Hockey national semi final last week). House Outings, CCF 24 hour exercise, Dance Show, Sports Dinner, Year 10 internal assessments and Work Experience are all still going on this term, as well as the Internationalism Dinner, one of our most popular and significant events.

Felsted pupils and staff ready to run the Cambridge Half Marathon.

Another recent highlight for me has been the Cambridge Half Marathon, run by a total of 33 Felsted students and staff.  Everyone finished, with thirteen of the pupils taking on the distance for the first time. In the process, they have raised over £11,000 for the various charities, challenged themselves and all come out on top.  As someone who only really discovered running properly at the age of the fifty, I hope that this will help to inspire them and others to maintain physical and mental fitness throughout their lives.

This weekend is an exeat and I know that most of us will benefit from a restful weekend, after a very busy few weeks (although no doubt still a few things to get done). Have a very good weekend.
