Embracing Opportunities

Embracing Opportunities

This week in Assembly, we heard from a group of Sixth Form pupils from Thorne House, who had visited the Nightshelter at the Felsted Mission. This has been able to operate over the last few years thanks to the support of Felsted, and at a time when the weather out on the streets must have been dreadful, the importance of this provision cannot be overstated. I am hugely grateful to all the students who went on this trip, and hearing them talk about their experience, it is clear that they benefited from this as well, and learned a great deal about the fine margins that have resulted in some of the people there needing this help.

We also heard about the incredible experience of two of our Year 10 girls, Arabella H and Seraphina H, who headed off to Argentina on a Round Square exchange in November and December. They attended Holy Trinity College in Buenos Aires, while staying with host families. This experience was an incredible learning experience for them, and we are very grateful to Holy Trinity College and their host families for supporting this outstanding opportunity.

Felsted is currently hosting two Round Square exchange students as well, Lillith from Germany and Saathvik from India. This provides a great chance for our pupils to learn more about different cultures and educational experiences, as well as demonstrating the key importance of being welcoming to others at the same time, as they get to spend some time at Felsted. If your son or daughter is interested in finding out more about Round Square exchanges, and how they could get involved, please do contact Miss Cabrera (rpc@felsted.org).

We also heard from our incredible ski trip that went out to Andorra before Christmas to take part in the ISSC schools competition. The pupils who were out there competed against other UK schools, with Felsted securing some fabulous victories, including the overall title. Even more pleasing, the pupils represented the school extremely well and made a really positive impression on everyone that they met while away.

Finally, I was delighted that our Choir was able to represent Felsted in yesterday's 150th anniversary celebration for Essex County Cricket Club in Chelmsford Cathedral. The feedback on their singing was incredibly positive and it was special to be a part of such an important occasion.

We talk a lot about opportunities at Felsted, but this can become lost as just one word among many. However, the reality is that there are so many opportunities, and I would urge all of the pupils to think about what else they can get involved in today and in the coming weeks, to really make the most of their time at the school. Even if it is just reaching out to a new friend, or helping another pupil when they are struggling with their work, all of these are opportunities that can really benefit the whole community.
