Prep Head's Blog: It's Coming Back

Firstly, I would like to welcome everyone back from, what I hope, was a restful and relaxing half term break. It has been great to have everyone back and school has certainly been busy with fixtures, educational visits, play preparations and some lessons!

This week’s assembly asked us all to consider that what we ‘give out’ to others affects us too-the boomerang effect! I showed the children a picture of a boomerang and asked them whether they knew what it was and what it did-of course, the response was a positive one and we moved on to a hula hoop!  I challenged anyone to see if they could spin out the hula hoop and get it to return to them-despite the hoop not being the healthiest we did achieve the goal!

In some ways, the boomerang and the hula hoop are similar to the actions that we take in our lives. The way in which we treat others can come back to affect us. For example, if we are unkind to others, they are less likely to be understanding of us; if we never share, people are unlikely to want to share with us.

However, the opposite is also true. If we are kind to others, they are likely to treat us kindly; if we are polite, people will tend to speak to us in a similar way; if we are generous, people will share with us. Even smiling at someone can change their day from a sad one, where they feel as if no one cares about them, to a happy one where they feel cared for and loved. A smile can make a big difference to their lives.

I challenged the children to think about what they “give out” to others-treat others in the way that they want to be treated-it tends to come back, like the boomerang and hoop.

I finished by showing the children a short clip of the world champion boomerang thrower-please follow the link if you would like to enjoy it too! Click here

Have a good week
