Prep Headmaster's Blog: What it means to be a Felstedian

Welcome back to the whole FPS community at the start of another very exciting year. I hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer break and feels refreshed for the challenges and opportunities that a new school year brings. It has been wonderful hearing everyone’s news and catching up with all the pupils, both new and returning.

I would like to pass on our congratulations to those Senior School pupils who did so magnificently well in their public examinations this summer, whether it was GCSE, A Level or the IB. As a Prep School, we were delighted to know that most of the top performers at both GCSE and A Level came through FPS!

The Prep School has been a hive of activity over the summer with the Junior Summer school programme taking place, as well as some facility improvements, including new interactive screens in the Pre-Prep.

In our first assembly of the year we discussed the idea of what it means to be a Felstedian. We went through what we mean by ‘values’ and what our Felsted values are. As a reminder, they are namely:-

  • Welcoming
  • Respectful
  • Adventurous
  • Fun
  • Inspirational

We all want as a community to share and develop this with respect, courtesy and integrity right at the heart of the community. We all, as that community, be it as pupil, staff member or parent have our part to play in ensuring the school continues to grow and thrive with kindness to one another right at it’s core, so that we are developing one’s character and making a difference.

I challenged the children to think about the year ahead as a journey – where are they heading, what they will need and who is there to support them. They had some wonderfully uplifting ideas and I look forward to seeing these flourish throughout the coming weeks and months.
