Prep Headmaster's Blog: The value of kindness

Who could have predicted a few months ago, the strange situation we are all finding ourselves facing for the foreseeable future?  Life is full of challenges, but this is one I don't think any of us saw coming.  However, the spirit to face up to it and meet it head on was certainly visible around school last week.

I would like to thank everyone for their support during this time - your emails have certainly lifted our spirits in the past few days.  I would also like to thank the operational staff at the Prep School, who have worked incredibly hard in the past few days.  At a time when things haven't been easy, their diligence and energy levels have doubled to ensure that the school has continued to function and thrive.  This has been evident across the campus as their sunny disposition has lit up many an encounter.

On my walk around school last Friday morning there was a definite "buzz" in lessons as pupils were preparing for the switch to remote and online learning.  Every one of us would of course prefer to be in school but I do want to thank the teaching staff for the preparations they have made for the upcoming changes.

Finally, I would like to address you as the Felsted community - be it parent, family, friend or follower.  We must look after each other and ourselves in the coming weeks.  I talk about the value of kindness a lot I know, but it will be such an important thing moving forward.  Look to enrich someone else's day on a regular basis - say something kind - do something to help them.

Make sure you have some family time, keep in touch with friends as much as possible.  I would like to end with the following poem which I shared on Twitter earlier in the week.  It really does capture how positivity at this time will triumph in the end.
