“Just try new things. Don't be afraid. Step out of your comfort zones and soar, all right?”
This quote from Michelle Obama formed the basis for my recent Prep School assembly. As we enter the final week of term I wanted to stress how incredible the whole community has been this year in very testing circumstances.
As a school the staff and pupils have had to try new things, present concepts differently and react to constant changes. I know that we will all emerge from this academic year as stronger, more resilient individuals and continue to soar like Michelle suggests. The past week has been full of fixtures, musical performances and planning for citizenship week next week. The sponsored walk for our charities will be enjoyed by everyone and I know Stewart House are looking forward to their Sports Days in Year groups.
Despite my note of positivity, you will be aware that the national picture with Covid has seen case numbers climbing over the last few weeks. This has started to impact schools, and there are a number of schools that have had to send home Year group bubbles, due to positive cases, and at least one that has had to return to online learning for the remainder of the term.
We have planned all of our events carefully, with safety measures in mind to minimise risk, but we also need to ensure that we are still following all the appropriate steps. Therefore, please can I ask everyone to remember to continue to socially distance, to avoid large gatherings, to practise good hand hygiene, and to wear face coverings where appropriate.
Please do also continue to reinforce these messages with your children, so that we can work together to make sure that we can provide end of term assemblies and a Speech Day for our Year 8 next Friday.
It has been a fantastic effort from everyone so far, and we just want to make sure that we do not let our guard down in the last week.
Take care and stay safe
